The
History:
In
1934 William Elmer Constantine,
Sr.,
founded Liberty Transfer Co,
Inc. with one truck and a vision.
That vision was to offer to
the shipping industry a quality
contract carrier, dedicated
to customer satisfaction and
on time service. In 1944, he
was joined by his son, William
Elmer Constantine Jr., and again
in 1947, by his youngest son,
Robert Melvin Constantine. In
1948, William Constantine, Jr.
purchased Bond Transfer Co,
Inc., and along with his father
and brother, the two companies
operated until 1980, when Liberty
Transfer Co, Inc. ceased its
operations. In spite of Liberty's
absence, Bond still continued
to grow; becoming one of the
few survivors of deregulation.
Even after the deaths
of William Elmer Constantine,
Sr. in 1983, and Robert Melvin
Constantine in 1994, ownership,
and a time honored tradition
of customer satisfaction, remain
within the family. While still
controlled and operated by William
Elmer Constantine, Jr., his
two children (Joyce Constantine-Pinder
and William Constantine III),
and two nephews (Douglas Constantine
and Donald Constantine), have
all stepped in, insuring that
the family tradition lives on.
Now, three generations
later, what was once
only a vision, seen in 1934,
has become a reality. Bond Transfer's
fleet presently consists of
approximately 90 tractors (most
of which are permitted to pull
up to 80,000 lbs.), and over
275 dry-van trailers (two thirds
of them measure up to be 48'
long, 102" wide, 13'6"
high-maxi van type). We also
employ approximately 100 well-experienced
drivers; operating company owned
equipment.
Bond Transfer has the
ICC authority to operate
as a contract carrier, over
irregular routes, transporting
general commodities between
all points in the U.S. for any
commercial shipper or receiver.
Operationally, however, we serve
the Northeast corridor from
Virginia to Maine, the eastern
half of Pennsylvania, and the
southeastern part of New York
State.
Prior to 1980 and the
era of deregulation,
we served only a small number
of accounts. However, with the
new "ease of entry"
policies, and the increased
competition we faced as a contract
carrier, forced us to broaden
our scope of operation and make
our services available to more
customers. We still offer our
new accounts the same personalized
services that we have been accustomed
to providing for over sixty
years as a contract carrier.
Now, we can offer these services
with the knowledge and experience
that has made us the contract
carrier that we are today!
